State of the Business Sales Market 1st to 15 November 2012

We have been able to develop a new report within our database which will hopefully provide us with a better insight into the business sales market. We call this graph, ‘Activity Performance’. In short, this graph measures the amount of activity in our office of prospective buyers, i.e. enquiries, business profiles sent, meetings etc. Hence it is an all-encompassing performance graph rather than measuring just one point, i.e. number of confidentiality deeds signed for the month. If you would like to know more about these records, please let me know and I am more than happy to share.
Unfortunately you will see the graph below does not paint a pretty picture for the month of October and November. Please keep in mind that in late October we had school holidays followed by the Melbourne Cup weekend. We are only halfway through November and we expect to see some increased activity before the month is out.
What really is obvious is just how tough a year it has been. You will see January and February (noting we were closed first two weeks of January) are head and shoulders above the remaining months of the calendar year.
All signs indicate that the market is improving and remains positive. We just hit a speed bump with the school holidays and Melbourne Cup weekend. It would have been great to see a rate cut during the Melbourne Cup weekend, to accelerate us again, however as we know that wasn’t the case. Some economist are predicting another rate cut before the year is out however I believe this will be too late in regard to business sales for 2012.

New BFBrokers Website
We were hoping that our new BFBrokers website would be up and running this week. Unfortunately the website is not ready, however we will continue to work with the IT team to have this running sooner rather than later.
In the meantime, we have created an information website for BFBrokers (this site – which will always be under constant construction given the nature of the site), which I’ll regularly blog and provide useful information in regards to business sales. We are confident that this will engage business buyers to a higher level.
